First Snow

I looked out the window this morning and the first snowfall of the season had made it's way here during the night. Everything, tree, brush and weed, had been coated with what looked like confectioner's sugar.

Hibernating and artwork

I apologizing for not blogging for two months. You know how too much life can get in the way at times. Now that winter is approaching, it's time for indoor activities. And nesting of course. And time to get back to making art and anything else I've put off for the past few weeks. Just to wet your appetite I'm sharing a new-to-me technique. First I gessoed a scrap piece of mat board and collaged it with pieces of newsprint. Then I aged it with diluted acrylic paint. Next an I drew an outline of a shag bark hickory tree that lives in my front yard on the surface. And lastly watercolor pencil filled in the image and was tweeked with a darker application of watercolor.

I can't believe it's been two months since I posted. Wow! Besides digging in the garden (you know how distracting that can be!) I have been working on my new quilt. It's on the frame now and three quarters quilted. It seems that I've been working on! Soon it will be too late in the season for working outside and time to get the brushes out again. So many ideas, so little paint. LOL!

Planning a new project

With a "new" house and a freshly painted wall, I have the opportunity to create a new piece of art for the music corner of our livingroom. What could be better than basing this art on a music theme? I've already decided that the title will be 'If music could be seen what would it look like?' You see, I have this habit of naming my art pieces before I create them. I think that the title is just as important as the art itself. I will be trying some new-to-me mixed media techniques to create that piece of art.

A Sow's Ear Into A Silk Purse

A garage sale find can become something unique. This is a before and after example. I've been delving into collage work and this was a perfect item for transformation. I can't wait to carry my tea and cookies out to the garden with this.

Newest painting

Life keeps me busy but I found time to share this (new) watercolor painting with you. This is another painting from my I-know-this-isn't-finished file. I took it to my Wednesday painting group and finished it there. Can you tell that I'm proud of this one? But with all that planning and perspective I think I'll probably not want to do another one! Can't decide if this is a keeper or if I'll put it on the market.

After the fourth

I'm sharing a couple of quilted pieces with you that I've made. I hope you enjoy them.

Our garage saling yesterday was somewhat of a bust. We followed signs that were posted but most of the sales weren't open. We found only 5 or 6 in our travels. My daughter made purchases of a dry sink, a chair and a lamp. I only came home with a fireplace bellows that I have plans for so... Stay tuned!

The Rose Covered Cottage

I'm on my way to my painting group this morning and I though I'd share my last painting with you. This was in the reject pile and my artists friends encouraged me to develop it. I'm so glad that I listened! Now it's hanging in a real estate office!

My first blog entry

Well, I finally did it! This is the first post on my new blog. I'll be sharing some of my life and definitely my artwork and crafting. And occasionally I'll add some photography to my posts. Just to wet your whistle I'm sharing one of my watercolors with you. Enjoy!
