What I'm Doing On A Below Zero Day

Today was a good day to hibernate. The temperatures in the northeast were well below zero. When my husband left for work last night the thermometer read -21 degrees. Many schools in the area were canceled for the day because they couldn't start the buses. It was a good day to stay inside and work on another quilt. And I have too many of them unfinished.

Procrastination 101

Definition: to put off taking action until a further time; be dilatory...to defer or postpone.
Okay, I have to face it. I'm a compulsive procrastinator. I'll put off anything that doesn't inspire me. That includes paperwork, housework or any other kind of work. Maybe the answer is in finding an alternative to the word 'work'. To me, work about as exciting as changing a baby's messy diapers. Bleak picture, isn't it?
All  kidding aside, I have been putting off adding to this blog. It's not that I don't want to but I've allowed everything else to distract me. And now I see that it's been almost a year since I last posted. I admit I'm great at starting things but continuing or finishing...err. I haven't been up to this point. I join too many forums to keep up with. And projects? Ovey!...here we go again.

So I'm here turning over a new leaf. I started with cleaning up my bookmarks (they do get out of hand, don't they?) and I'm vowing not to spend as much time on FaceBook, especially with those free games.

It's a little late for a New Year's resolution

This could also be titled I FINALLY CLEANED UP MY STUDIO! We moved in this home two years ago and I finally have some semblance of order in the room I use for my studio. Of course, the room has gotten messed up a couple of times since I got it organized but, hey that's where I spend a lot of my time and you can't expect me to keep it company ready! Haha! So come on in and take a look at my treasured studio space.

First Snow

I looked out the window this morning and the first snowfall of the season had made it's way here during the night. Everything, tree, brush and weed, had been coated with what looked like confectioner's sugar.

Hibernating and artwork

I apologizing for not blogging for two months. You know how too much life can get in the way at times. Now that winter is approaching, it's time for indoor activities. And nesting of course. And time to get back to making art and anything else I've put off for the past few weeks. Just to wet your appetite I'm sharing a new-to-me technique. First I gessoed a scrap piece of mat board and collaged it with pieces of newsprint. Then I aged it with diluted acrylic paint. Next an I drew an outline of a shag bark hickory tree that lives in my front yard on the surface. And lastly watercolor pencil filled in the image and was tweeked with a darker application of watercolor.

A Quick Check In

Our lifestyle has changed since my husband of nearly 50 years had a serious stroke in May 20019. No more running out for groceries when I wa...
